Let me end on a positive note by saying the music and visuals of the game is top notch. There was that recent thread about how the younger generation doesn't appreciate retro games. However, instead making open world busywork or GaaS style virtual treadmills, they used bullshit level/encounter designs. Even back then game companies were prone to padding out their games. Overall game length is very short but the difficulty is obviously used to mask that. Certain sections are so badly designed with the screen filled with flying enemies and projectiles. I can see the artistry in the music and the visuals but the gameplay is a total slog. Controls are incredibly stiff and the encounter design is deliberately made to frustrate. Played the first game and was very underwhelmed. ![]() Decided to get the Castlevania Anniversary Collection because of the Netflix show and I haven't played any of them except the metroidvania ones.
